PRACTICING THE PRESENCE - 6
The Beauty of Holiness
One of the inescapable truths of Scripture is that God’s
power and presence is released in direct proportion to our
worship.
Psalm 29:2 (NKJV) Give unto the Lord the glory due to His
name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
Psalm 96:9 (NKJV) Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of
holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth.
1 Chronicles 16:29 (NKJV) Give to the Lord the glory due His
name; Bring an offering, and come before Him.
Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!
● Worship in the beauty of holiness is a decoration of
dedication.
● Worship in the beauty of holiness is an attitude of the
heart that leads to an expression of worship.
“God's passion for His glory is the essence of His love to us.
God's love for us is not primarily His making much of us, but
giving us the ability to enjoy making much of Him forever because
it is in Him and His presence that we find joy, peace, and
everything worth living for.” - John Piper
1. It’s the recognition of God’s value.
Psalm 29:2 (NKJV) Give unto the Lord the glory due to His
name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
2. It’s the bowing of our hearts.
Worship the LORD in the beauty of his holiness...!
Psalm 29:2; Psalm 96:9; 1 Chronicles 16:29 (NKJV)
Revelation 4:9-11a (NIV) Whenever the living creatures give
glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who
lives for ever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before
him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and
ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:
11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God...”
Psalm 96:9 (MSG) Bring gifts and celebrate,
Bow before the beauty of God,
Then to your knees—everyone worship!
3. It’s a celebration of joy.
Psalm 96:9 (NKJV) Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of
holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth.
Hebrews 12:18-21 (NIV)
You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is
burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19 to a trumpet
blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it
begged that no further word be spoken to them, 20 because they
could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches
the mountain, it must be stoned to death.”
21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling
with fear.”
Hebrews 12:22-24 (MSG)
No, that’s not your experience at all. You’ve come to Mount Zion,
The city where the living God resides. The invisible Jerusalem is
populated by throngs of festive angels and Christian citizens. It is
the city where God is Judge, with judgments that make us just.
You’ve come to Jesus, who presents us with a new covenant, a
fresh charter from God. He is the Mediator of this covenant. The
murder of Jesus, unlike Abel’s—a homicide that cried out for
vengeance—became a proclamation of grace.
4. It’s the bringing of an offering.
1 Chronicles 16:29 (NKJV) Give to the Lord the glory due His
name; Bring an offering, and come before Him.
Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!
· It’s a voluntary offering
· It’s a sacrificial offering.
· It speaks of dependence on God.
· It’s a faith proclamation.
Hebrews 13:15 (NKJV) Therefore by Him let us continually offer
the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving
thanks to His name.
5. It’s the anticipation of victory.
2 Chronicles 20:21 (NKJV) And when he had consulted with the
people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and
who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out
before the army and were saying: “Praise the Lord, For His mercy
endures forever.”
2 Chronicles 20:12 (NKJV) O our God, will You not judge them?
For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming
against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon
You.”
2 Chronicles 20:15 (NIV) He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat
and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord
says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this
vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.
2 Chronicles 20:17 (NIV) You will not have to fight this battle.
Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the
Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not
be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will
be with you.’”
2 Chronicles 20:21 (NKJV) And when he had consulted with the
people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and
who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out
before the army and were saying: “Praise the Lord, For His mercy
endures forever.”
