Soul Searching: Rest

 Where do we find rest for our souls?

 Our souls find rest in God alone.

Psalm 62:1 My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes

from him.

Matthew 11:28-29 Come to me, all you who are weary and

burdened, and I will give you rest… you will find rest for your

souls.

 How do we find rest in God?

 Be still before God.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God.

Psalm 131:2 But I have stilled and quieted my soul like a weaned

child with its mother

 Wait for God

Psalm 37:7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him

Psalm 130:5-6 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits… more than

watchmen wait for the morning.

 Waiting isn’t passive — it’s expectant. Ask Him:

1. What do you want to say to me?

2. What do you want to show me?

3. What do you want to do in me?

 Reflect on God’s goodness

Psalm 116:7-9 Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has

been good to you

 When we remember God’s faithfulness, our souls are

anchored in hope.

 When you’re drained, look to the one who never is.

Isaiah 40:28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is

the everlasting God… He will not grow tired or weary.

 We may be at the end of our strength — but God never is. His

understanding is limitless, and His strength is always available.

 If you need a word, get it from the Word.

Romans 10:8 The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your

heart

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed

by the renewing of your mind

 Filling your mind with God’s Word brings:

 Renewal — replacing old, weary patterns with truth.

 Faith — replacing fear and negativity with confidence in God.

 Beware of counterfeits.

Exodus 20:3-4 You shall have no other gods before me

 Our soul was created to worship — to connect deeply with

God.

 When it connects to anything less, it ends up exhausted,

unsatisfied, and restless.

 Your rest is not in your performance, but in His presence.
