Rebuilding Your Life
"Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that
counts." - Winston Churchill?
Truth: People LOVE a good redemption story.
Neh. 1:2Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other
men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant that survived the
exile, and also about Jerusalem. 3They said to me, “Those who survived
the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace.
The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with
fire.”
1. Be honest with God, yourself and others.
4When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I
mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. 5Then I said:
“O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his
covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands, 6let
your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is
praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I
confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s house,
have committed against you. 7We have acted very wickedly toward you.
We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your
servant Moses.
2. Confess your sin.
3. Ask for help.
Is. 1:17Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the
fatherless, plead the case of the widow.

Gal. 6:2Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of
Christ.
Rom. 15:1Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in
and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most
convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. --- Each one of us
needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves,
“How can I help?”
Neh. 4:6 So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the
people worked with all their heart.
4. Work hard.
Neh. 4:1When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became
angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, 2and in the
presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, “What are
those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer
sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life
from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?” --- 3Tobiah the
Ammonite, who was at his side, said, “What they are building—if even a fox
climbed up on it, he would break down their wall of stones!” 7...when
Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the men of Ashdod heard
that the repairs to Jerusalem’s walls had gone ahead and that the gaps
were being closed, they were very angry. 8They all plotted together to
come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it.
5. Don’t quit!
Neh 4:16From that day on, half of my men did the work, while the other half
were equipped with spears, shields, bows and armor. The officers posted
themselves behind all the people of Judah 17who were building the wall.
Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a
weapon in the other, 18and each of the builders wore his sword at his side

as he worked... 23 Neither I nor my brothers nor my men nor the guards
with me took off our clothes; each had his weapon, even when he went for
water.
Neh. 6:15So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two
days. 16When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations
were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this
work had been done with the help of our God.
