CHRIST ALONE - 1
Good Good News
THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST IS THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT
GOD CAME TO EARTH, LIVED A SINLESS LIFE, DIED FOR OUR SINS,
ROSE FROM THE GRAVE AND OFFERS US THE FREE GIFT OF
SALVATION. OUR RESPONSE TO THE GOSPEL IS BELIEVING THAT
WHAT JESUS DID IS ENOUGH, TRUSTING HIM TO SAVE US FROM
OUR SINS, AND JOYFULLY GIVING JESUS OUR LIVES IN
SURRENDER TO HIS LORDSHIP.
Colossians 1:15 (NLT) Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed
before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
JESUS IS GOD WITH A FACE.
JESUS IS CREATOR.
Colossians 1:16 (NLT) for through him God created everything in the heavenly
realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was
created through him and for him.
JESUS IS SAVIOR.
Colossians 1:18 (NLT) Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body.
JESUS IS ENOUGH ALL BY HIMSELF.
Colossians 1:18 (NLT) …He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the
dead. So he is first in everything.
Colossians 1:2-6 (NLT) May God our Father give you grace and peace. 3 We
always pray for you, and we give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 4
For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people, 5

which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You
have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News.
6 This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing
fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first
heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.

Colossians 1:11-14 (NLT) We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his
glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be
filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the
inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us
from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14
who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
Colossians 1:21-22 (NLT) This includes you who were once far away from God. You
were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22 Yet now he
has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a
result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as
you stand before him without a single fault.
Colossians 1:23 But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it.
Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The
Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as
God’s servant to proclaim it.
1. GRACE SAVES US.
Ephesians 2:8a God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take
credit for this; it is a gift from God.
THE BAD NEWS: WE ARE SINNERS
THE GOOD NEWS: THERE IS A SAVIOR AND HIS NAME IS
JESUS
Romans 3:23 (NLT) For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious
standard.

1 Timothy 1:15b (NLT) This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it:
“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all.
Romans 6:23 (NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal
life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:3 (NLT) I passed on to you what was most important and what
had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT) For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the
offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
Colossians 1:22 Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of
Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and
you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.
RECONCILED - TO BE BROUGHT BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL
STATE OF HARMONY
John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The
Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
2. GRACE CHANGES US.
Colossians 1:6 (NLT) This same Good News that came to you is going out all over
the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives
from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.
● A GRACE THAT DOES NOT CHANGE US IS NOT GOD’S
GRACE
● GRACE IS MORE THAN A PRINCIPLE OR AN IDEA, GRACE
IS A PERSON.

“Grace is God meeting us at our point of need in the Person of Jesus
Christ.” -Jack Hayford
Titus 2:11-12 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12
training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled,
upright, and godly lives in the present age,

Song: Good Good News
There is a light for the blind man
There’s a sound for deaf ears
There are riches for forgotten souls
That have nothing left to give
There is freedom from bondage
For those who can’t break free
This is the Gospel of Jesus
And it’s good news
There’s a father for those who have none
A home for those who’ve strayed
There’s healing for the broken
Who’ve been bruised along the way
There is rest for the weary
A shelter from the rain
We have a friend in Jesus
And that’s good news
Let us remember
We have good good news
We won’t hide it in the shadows
We will light up the truth
Tell everybody

What He’s done for you
And shout it from the rooftops
We got good news
