Episode Notes

A 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional

Day 1: The Servant Leader
Reading: John 13:1-5

Devotional: Jesus, knowing His time was short, chose to demonstrate the epitome of servant leadership by washing His disciples' feet. This act, typically reserved for the lowest servants, showcases the profound humility of Christ.
As we reflect on this passage, let's consider how we can emulate Jesus' example in our daily lives. Are there "lowly" tasks we avoid? How can we serve others sacrificially, even when it's inconvenient or uncomfortable?
Remember, true greatness in God's kingdom is measured by our willingness to serve, not by our status or position.

Day 2: Love That Knows No Bounds
Reading: John 13:1, 1 John 4:7-11

Devotional: John 13:1 tells us that Jesus, knowing His hour had come, loved His disciples "to the end." This phrase signifies a love that knows no limits, persevering through betrayal, denial, and even death.
As we meditate on Christ's boundless love, let's examine our own hearts. How deep and enduring is our love for others, especially when faced with disappointment or hurt? God calls us to love as He loves – unconditionally and sacrificially.
Today, consider how you can demonstrate this kind of love to someone in your life, particularly someone who may be difficult to love.

Day 3: The Cleansing Power of Christ
Reading: John 13:6-11, Titus 3:4-7

Devotional: In His exchange with Peter, Jesus reveals a profound spiritual truth – our need for His cleansing to have a part with Him. This washing goes beyond physical cleanliness; it represents the spiritual purification that only Christ can provide.
As believers, we've been "bathed" through salvation, yet we still need daily cleansing from the dust of this world. How often do we come to Jesus for this spiritual refreshing?
Today, take time to confess any areas where you've allowed the world's influence to soil your walk with God, and receive His gracious cleansing anew.

Day 4: Breaking Power Structures
Reading: John 13:12-17, Philippians 2:3-8

Devotional: Jesus' act of foot-washing shattered the disciples' understanding of power and leadership. By taking on the role of a servant, He demonstrated that true greatness lies in humility and service to others.
This radical redefinition of power challenges us to examine our own attitudes and ambitions. Where in our lives are we seeking status or recognition instead of opportunities to serve?
How can we "wash the feet" of those around us today, putting their needs before our own? Remember, when we humble ourselves in service, we reflect the very heart of Christ.

Day 5: Love in the Face of Betrayal
Reading: John 13:18-30, Romans 5:6-8

Devotional: Even as Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, He knew one would betray Him. Yet, He chose to serve Judas alongside the others, demonstrating love even to His enemy.
This powerful example challenges us to examine how we treat those who hurt or oppose us. Christ's love wasn't dependent on the worthiness of its recipients – He loved to the very end, even those who rejected Him.
How can we extend grace and kindness to those who have wronged us? Today, pray for someone who has hurt you, asking God to fill you with His supernatural love for that person.
