Title: Firm Foundation February 2, 2025
Big Idea: Do not be short-sighted or impatient…
Be faithful and see God work generationally.
1. Show gratitude to those before us who have laid a strong foundation.
1st Corinthians 3:10-11, According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Matthew 7:24-25, Everyone then who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
2. Make your own contribution to the good work that has been started.
1st Corinthians 3:12-15 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone
has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
1st Peter 2:4-5, As you come to Him, a Living Stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
3. Commit to equip the next generation to keep on building as called by God.
1st Corinthians 16-17, Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.
Acts 2:42, And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Next Step: Don’t just be a hearer… Be a doer.
Do something to show gratitude.
Do something to make a contribution.
Do something to equip the next generation.
