Lions represent visible problems, while snakes represent concealed challenges. Some problems- like lions--are immediately recognizable. Others--like snakes which are often concealed in rocks or grass--are not as easily seen but are equally as deadly. The good news is that although you are surrounded by lions and snakes, as long as you abide in Christ you are safe. The Bible uses many natural parallels to illustrate spiritual truths. For example, Jesus compared the spiritual needs of the world to a natural harvest field. He also drew spiritual analogies concerning the lilies of the field and the birds of the air to illustrate God's care for His people. Your adversary is not your mate, your kids, or your coworker. Your adversary is the devil and he is described as a roaring lion.
