Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Jesus is at the beginning of our journey. 1 Conversion is instantaneous 2 Conversion is miraculous If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation.” He leads us during our journey 1 Spiritual Leadership The Spirit Himself bears witness within us that we are children of God.” 2 Moral Leadership “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” He Leads us at the End of the Journey 1 Religion can actually block the path to light. 2 Light and darkness can’t coexist 3 Both light and darkness have a destination. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” How can you tell if someone is walking in darkness? 1 They have a very critical spirit 2 They become very defensive 3 The Hate the Light For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. (VS. 20) Being a Light Lover But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” (Vs. 21) 1 You have to leave the darkness and you have to come into the light 2 When you come into the light A. There is cleansing. B. There is forgiveness. CONCLUSIONS 1 Jesus experienced darkness so that we could walk in light. 2 We must see the light, but for most of us we also have to feel the heat. 3 Only God can bring us from darkness to light. 4 12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life,[a] and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 1 Jesus, the Word, is the creator. John 1:3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. John is introducing us to our creator Col. 1:16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 2 Jesus also is the revealer John 1:4-5 In him was life,[a] and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. II Changes that Jesus brought because He is the true Temple. Jesus now is the point of worship He becomes the fulfillment of the Law. He becomes our sacrifice. What does this teach us about Jesus and about our need? 1 Christ is the final and most complete revelation of God. 2 Without Jesus, you are simply managing your darkness 3 If you have the desire to choose the light, it is Christ that gives us that desire. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go. 22 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord, Israel is my firstborn son, 23 and I say to you, “Let my son go that he may serve me.” If you refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son.’” Four characteristics of people who really know God. 1 People who know God have great energy for God Daniel 11:32 The people who know their God shall be strong, and shall do exploits. 2 People who know God have great thoughts about God 3 People who know God show great boldness for God. 4 People who know God have great contentment with God Three experiences—that Moses had 1 You Need to unedstand My sovereignty 2 You need to understand my holiness. 3 You need to understand the faithfulness of God! 19 You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?” 20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life’” Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” For God so loved the world. 1 An Infinitely Holy God 2 A Sinfully Rebellious People A The World loves Darkness John 3:19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” B The world hates the Light THE STORY “When the Lord began to speak through Hosea, the Lord said to him, ‘Go, take to yourself an adulterous wife and children of unfaithfulness, because the land is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the Lord.’ So he married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son” (Hosea 1:2-3). 1 A Man relating to his Unfaithful Wife 2 A Story of an Unfaithful People A Story of an Unfaithful People When He’s talking about Gomer, he is talking about His people, but he is also talking about us. 1 She was adulterous. She is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her remove the adulterous look from her face” (Hosea 2:2). A Sin is a personal affront to God. B There are no spiritual singles 2 She was idolatrous She has not acknowledged that I was the one who gave her the grain, the new wine and oil, who lavished on her the silver and gold—” she used it to build idols to Baal, the things I gave she used to worship other gods (Hosea 2:8). 3 She was Hypocritical I will stop all her celebrations: her yearly festivals, her New Moons, her Sabbath days—all her appointed feasts” (Hosea 2:11). 4 She was forgetful. I will punish her for the days she burned incense for the Baals; she decked herself with rings and jewelry, and went after her lovers, but me she forgot” (Hosea 2:13). Take care lest you forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments and his rules and his statutes, which I command you today, (Deut. 8:11) And if you forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you today that you shall surely perish. 20 Like the nations that the Lord makes to perish before you, so shall you perish, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God. (Deut. 8:19-20) A Story of an Unreasonable God Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and Speak tenderly to her. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” 11 The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” 5 I don’t want to go (4:13-17) 13 But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” 14 Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. Psalm 33:10–11 The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
